BTS our 'Down Under Christmas Dreams' Collection

G'day!
My name is Amy and I am the Owner behind Sleepy Society. I wanted to share the inspiration and process behind designing our 'Down Under Christmas Dreams' collection.

What was my inspiration?
Planning ahead, I commenced this project in early 2023 while expecting my second baby. Realising that the newborn phase would demand much of my time having gone through it previously, I knew I would have to put the production through early so I started brainstorming ideas. Christmas Down Under brings warmth and a unique charm. As I was thinking about the theme for our Christmas pyjamas this year, I knew wanted to keep the same authentic Aussie Christmas vibe. Traditional pyjamas often feature Santa amidst snowy scenes and wintry icons, reflecting a colder Christmas experience. However,  that is not the case in Australia and our previous collection 'Aussie Christmas Summer BBQ' was a hit, inspiring me to explore the Aussie Christmas theme further.

Creativity journey and design process
I envisioned Santa on a kangaroo-led sleigh, adorned with a cork hat and thongs, steering away from the usual reindeer-led carriage. We incorporated iconic Australian elements like a sleeping koala nestled in a Christmas wreath. Alongside traditional Christmas hues, we embraced our national colours, adorning the cotton in rich dark green and embellishing with gold baubles. Once I had the initial ideas, I collaborated with our talented fashion designer, whose ingenuity brought our visions to life.

Valuable insights from customer feedback
Drawing from valuable customer feedback, we aimed for a darker colour and introduced a comfortable t-shirt for men instead of the traditional button-up style. To ensure overall comfort for the entire family, we decided to try cotton material for this collection. For our youngest wearers, we crafted onesies for infants below the age of one, prioritising their comfort. After fine-tuning and testing the samples, we tweaked a few minor details to make the pyjamas perfect.

Capturing authentic moments in our photoshoot 
I couldn't wait to involve my son in the festive spirit being his first Christmas, I was excited to include him in our photoshoot and also to see him sport the Christmas onesie. I was 12 weeks postpartum for the photoshoot but I felt it essential to capture these moments authentically, showcasing the reality of a real family and me in the post-birth phase, which many can relate to.

All systems go
The collection was launched online in September, something I learned from previous years was to launch earlier as lots of customers organise their Christmas pyjamas early. Having planned ahead, I am grateful I was able to launch by my desired date despite a few production and shipping delays.

Festive celebrations in our collection
It's always a delight to see our loved ones wearing the 'Down Under Christmas Dreams' pyjamas, setting the perfect tone for the festive season. The joy on the kids' faces is contagious! These pyjamas have been a staple at a couple of our Christmas dinners already (and it's not even December yet), bringing everyone together. What's more, our furry friends join the fun too with our Pet-dannas so your pets can match the family's festive spirit!
